Radiator – paint for effect

I was in a schoolroom recently it was an older school building with a rather nice old style cast iron radiator that had just been freshly painted in bright cheerful colours. I do not know who had selected the colour scheme or had done the painting but the whole effect was rather good, it certainly made the schoolroom a brighter place than those of my childhood. So maybe your central heating system can become an attractive part of the décor of your house. Go have a look and dream. However, many of us we have to live with what we have, and the radiator in our room is just straightforward flat Magnolia painted panel, it seems to me that experimenting in some rooms with contrasting colours on central heating panel and wall could produce some attractive rooms.

How about considering painting the walls White and the central heating panel Black, is that perhaps too severe? Pastel Green painted walls and Pillar Box red central heating panels, I think that suits me more. Painting is easy just rub down the existing paint, clean, prime any bare metal, then paint with your choice of colour, special brushes are available for painting behind the panel, or often you can take the panel off its supports and rotate forward a little to get at the back, do not paint whilst the panel is hot.
